THIS PUMP CAN ALSO BE USED TO PUMP WATER OR OTHER LIQUIDS FROM
A 55 GALLON DRUM.
PUMPS
installed on a well or drop/suction pipe. Water or other liquid
source may be a well, tank, spring, cistern barrel, etc. Where
maximum lift, pumping level, distance to water does not exceed
20 ft. (9 meters)
These pumps may also be used as a hand held bilge pump, barrel/drum
pump or for initial priming a jet or centrifugal pump.
INSTALL pump on well pipe, or suction/drop pipe. TEFLON tape
or a good quality thread, sealant should be used on all threads.
Make up threads on pump hand tight or enough to prevent leaks.
PRIME pump by putting water into the discharge and pumping handle
until all air is eliminated an pump is primed.
IF handle continues to pump easy with little or no resistance
(pumps air) and does not prime:
PROBLEM is a hole or leak (bad connection) in the suction pipe,
above the water level. Be sure suction pipe is submerged.
IF handle pumps hard (back-pressure) and delivers little or
no volume:
PROBLEM is suction or intake is obstructed (well point or screen
plugged/stopped-up) or lift exceeds 25-30 ft.
A common problem with small diameter driven, or screened wells
is a plugged well point or screen.
For example let us say we have a 2 in. driven well 30 ft. in depth
with what appears to be a static water level of 10 ft.
This would indicate we have plenty of water. But if we have a
plugged point/screen this condition may prevent the water reaching
true static level, which we will say in this example, is 18 ft.
A good way to check this is to pour water in the well pipe to
the surface, if it stands full or goes down very slowly the well
point is plugged (stopped up or sealed off). If the water goes
down rapidly or you cannot fill the pipe, the well point is open
and should produce water .
TO CORRECT this condition (plugged well point/screen) pull pipe
and replace point/screen or acid treat well.
Note: On many applications it is desirable to use a foot valve
with an intake strainer on the drop , pipe.
This creates positive prime and prevents undesirable material
from entering suction pipe.
Performance and ease of prime will be improved if you remove the internal
check valve assembly in the pump when using a foot valve.
SAND POINTS
Remember a high water level in a pipe will not produce if the
point or screen is plugged or the intake obstructed.
On pressure model; HAND TIGHT only on packing
nut. (UPP2)
Assemble handle and plunger bolts loose enough for movement,
do not over tighten. Suction pipe should not be l inch.
Note: All parts on our pump are stainless steel !!.
ON ALL PUMPS the use of our optional discharge fittings will
improve performance. The 1-1/2 Spig X 1-1/4 Fipt PVC bushing will
press fit into discharge and can be removed (or solvent welded
permanently). This adapts the discharge to standard 1 1/4"
pipe thread for a variety of applications.
With the above adapter in place the 1-1/4 insert X Mipt adapter
ell will screw into it. Turned in an up position makes priming
easier. Turn down to pump or divert water in any direction or
attach discharge pipe or hose.
We can furnish adapters to hose thread or almost any size pipe
or plumbing. These inexpensive fittings are a standard item and
are available most places locally.
