Keeping food on hand for emergencies protects
you the same way insurance on your home, auto, or
life does. With Mountain House® freeze-dried foods in your food
reserve, you can be ready for just about any unexpected crisis.
In today's turbulent times of uncertainty, (i.e., world market
collapse, stock market volatility, frequency of natural and man-made
disasters, etc.) there has never been a better time to get a "survival
insurance policy" of long storing foods and preparedness supplies.
In fact, the investment you make today may very well become the most
important and valuable investments you will ever make!
Imagine if you will, what a life-saver these
foods will be when your electric power is knocked out for several days
by a severe storm. With Mountain House® on hand and a one burner
stove or candle to heat water (cold water can be used in a pinch), you
can enjoy a hot delicious gourmet tasting meal in less than 10 minutes.
Having your own private food reserve makes a lot of sense... now more
than ever before. The peace-of-mind and security that comes form
having your food reserve is potentially priceless!
COULD YOU SURVIVE A
FOOD SHORTAGE?
If food supplies were interrupted for any variety
of reasons (i.e. a natural disaster, civil unrest, riots, trucker strike,
etc.), existing store supplies would disappear within hours. No
amount of money in the bank could put food on your table... for sure
not the kind you enjoy today. And how about those credit cards
and ATM cards even if food was available. If the power is out
or computer lines are down... good luck, you'll be on your own.
This never need happen to you or your family if you simply take a few
prudent steps today to get better prepared and get the food reserves
you need.
TASTE, CONVENIENCE,
SECURITY
Mountain House® freeze-dried foods are delicious,
require no preparation, and will taste just as fresh years from now
as they do today. Backpackers consistently rate us #1 year after
year as the best tasting foods and ease of preparation. We are
often asked why our foods taste superior to the competition. The
answer is fairly simple. You see, we actually start with fresh
or frozen foods then prepare and cook them, and finally freeze-dry them
ourselves. All the goodness, flavor, and taste is locked in just
as if you had hand made them yourself from scratch. In comparison,
all other backpacking food companies do not actually freeze-dry or cook
their own foods. They blend the dry components of other companies
and package them. Our foods taste as close to fresh frozen as
you can get. If you want to store the best... look no further
than Mountain House®.
SIMPLE FOOD PREPARATION
In today's fast hectic pace of life, we are
used to a variety of fast convenient foods. From fast food restaurants
to micro-wavable foods, we want fast great tasting meals our whole
family will love. This is where Mountain House® leads the field.
Our freeze-dried foods are super easy to prepare -- just add water...
wait 10 minutes... and eat! Their convenience can't be beat.
Because no cooking is needed, these foods require much less water and
fuel than most fresh, frozen or dehydrated foods (further conserving
these two precious commodities).
30+ YEAR SHELF-LIFE
Mountain House freeze-dried foods are packed
in #10 cans with 98% of the oxygen removed. Their canning process uses
vacuum oxygen removal and nitrogen flushing, or oxygen absorbers to
protect product freshness. The products packed in #10 cans offer a 30+
year shelf life. They have manufactured cans for almost 35 years for
consumers and military use. They have also tasted product that is 35
years old and it still tastes great. Each can and lid is coated with
a protective enamel inside and out for double protection. The cans contents
are protected until you open them. After opening, they recommend using
the contents within 2 to 3 weeks for best results and taste; using the
convenient resealable plastic lid between uses. Treat any leftover food
as you would fresh food.
FREEZE-DRYING PROCESS
"Freeze-drying" is a unique process that
provides product characteristics that cannot be achieved with any other
food processing method. We start by using fresh or cooked foods
or cooked foods then flash freeze them. Next we place them in
a special vacuum chamber that reaches temperatures as cold as -50°F.
As low-level heat is applied (much less than dehydrating), the ice crystals
evaporate without going back to the liquid phase. This process,
called "sublimination", removes approximately 98% of the product's
moisture which prevents the food from spoiling. The ultimate
for long term storage. illustration
Why is freeze-dried
important?
Freeze-drying provides very unique benefits
and advantages over other food processing methods. Frozen foods maintain
fresh flavor, but they must be kept frozen. Dehydrated and canned foods
are shelf-stable, but their high-temperature processing reduces their
flavor, texture, color, and nutrients. Freeze-drying combines the best
of these processing methods--it locks in the freshness, color, texture,
and aroma of frozen food while providing the shelf-stable convenience
of canned or dehydrated food. MOUNTAIN HOUSE® freeze-dried
food:
TASTES
FRESH: Freeze-dried foods are nutritious and retain their
fresh-food taste. Freeze drying removes only the water, not the
flavor.
LOOKS
FRESH: Freeze-dried foods maintain their original shape and
texture. Low-temperature processing removes the food's water yet
keeps the moisture channels and food fibers intact. When water is
added back to the food, you can enjoy every fresh-food detail within
minutes.
WEIGHS
LESS THAN FRESH: 98% of the water has been removed from MOUNTAIN
HOUSE®, so the weight of the food
is reduced by 60% to 90%
This chart shows how they outperform other preserved foods
and offer many advantages found in fresh foods as well.

Unsurpassed Quality
Control
Mountain House® has a firm commitment to produce
high quality food products in the cleanest, most modern food processing
plant. Our facilities have continuous USDA and FDA inspections.
We use only the highest quality meats, poultry, eggs, and vegetables
-- NO SUBSTITUTES. Every batch of food we produce is tested, and
retested again several times by random statistical sampling to insure
a premium quality product every time. We don't stop there though.
We continue quality control (QC) testing and sampling during the entire
canning process. Even then we're not finished. We pull off
random cases from each run for further QC inspections. Afterwards,
each completed run is held by our QC department until the testing
is completed. Only then is our foods ready to leave our facilities.
Does all this make a difference? You bet it does. For over
30 years, our reputation for producing the finest freeze-dried foods
is unsurpassed. We invite your close inspection. Try some
of our premium quality foods for yourself . Like thousands of
other food storage buyers each year, we think you will agree that Mountain
House® offers the best tasting and finest quality foods for long-term
storage available today.
How long has Oregon Freeze
Dry, INC. been producing Mountain House®
foods?
Oregon Freeze Dry, Inc. pioneered the development of freeze-dried
food in the United States and was founded in 1963 to produce freeze-dried
fruit for a large, nationally-known cereal manufacturer. Later they
worked with the Department of Defense to develop and produce military
rations that tasted better, weighed less, and were easier to prepare
than canned rations. By the early 1970's, they were marketing their
own MOUNTAIN HOUSE® brand of freeze-dried
foods for outdoor recreational use. Oregon Freeze Dry, Inc. is
the largest multi-product freeze dryer in the world and is recognized
as the world's leader in innovative, large-scale freeze-dry technology.
They have two USDA-approved manufacturing plants, and a separate FDA-registered
plant for non-food products. Their production facilities and products
are under continuous USDA inspection. Collectively, these plants represent
over 32,000 square feet of freeze-drying capacity - more than half the
freeze-drying capacity in the U.S.
Does Oregon Freeze Dry, INC. manufacture other
products?
YES! Their freeze-dried ingredients are known for their high
quality and are key components in products made by many of America's
largest food companies. You will find their ingredients in a wide variety
of food products found on any grocery shelf--from instant soups and
cream-filled chocolates to breakfast cereal and snacks. Their private
label products include items such as lunch and dinner entrees for a
nationally-known weight-loss program. OREGON FREEZE DRY, INC.
continues to be a major supplier of rations and ration components to
the U.S. military and the space program. And, of course, for over two
decades MOUNTAIN HOUSE® has been the
#1 menu favorite of recreational enthusiasts around the world.
