Pumping Basics for
Shallow Wells
If
water level is less than 22 ft down: Use one of our self-contained SHALLOW
WELL PUMPS“Pitcher Pumps” Reasonable cost and simple installation
are its hallmarks. Pulls water from almost any distance horizontally (add one
foot to depth of water for every 50 feet of horizontal pipe distance). Also, for
Every 1000' of elevation add 1' to pipe depth.
Fast
installation with any pitcher pump: Screw on drop-pipe 25'-30' long, slip
into well and bolt down. Our 20' pumps may or may not pull water from more than
20' from pump (Most units designed for 20' but we now have a pump that will pump
from 22' - use 30' drop pipe). The length of the pipe does not make the pumping
any different, only the level of the water. Save money by using plastic pipe instead
of steel. Never use foot valve unless you protect pump from freezing. Always use
closed top pumps for outdoor pumps to keep your well water clean and free of debris.
We suggest a foot valve if your water is 8' down or deeper.
Note:
Leather seals are always best preserved with oil, which may cause an oily film
or smell during the first few weeks of use.
Your
Health Department may require a sealed system like our Good, Better, Great, and
Ultimate pumps. These keep water sanitary.

Pitcher Pump Tested at Four Million continuous strokes,
far exceeding the lifetime use of this pump and yielded zero failures!!! Pull
from 22' down. This pump is made of high impact plastic and will give you a lifetime
of service. It will pump 20' high, to your 2nd floor, or to another location by
connecting to the spout with your pipe or hose. Place a PVC T after the spout
then a check valve after the T for pumping through hose or into an overhead tank.
You need the T in order to prime the pump with water. Screw male adpt on bottom
then glue your drop pipe on and you are ready to go. Check valve at bottom built
in - see picture. 1/3 more volume than other pumps, 12 oz/stroke. Tighten nut
on top to adjust pressure capacity. Use 2-Part Epoxy (in stock) to glue on PVC
Flange Fitting to pump. For every 50' horizontal run add 1' to depth of water,
and for every 1000' of land elevation add 1' also which reduces the level at which
you can pump your water up from. (Note: this pump, as with others, must be primed before each use unless water stays inside of the cylinder. This pump does not use leather gaskets or seals) #UPP2
