WHY DC POWER? When you produce your own power, you are very aware of how much power each appliance uses. The average AC-powered ceiling fan draws between 0.5 and 1 amp. When an inverter is used to run the AC ceiling fan, you are pulling 5 to 10 amps DC to run the fan. This does not include the power consumed by the inverter to produce the AC power required by the ceiling fan. This fan can be hooked up to either 12 or 24 volts. It will run faster on 24 volts and draw a little more amperage:
12 Volt: 0.5  Amps
24 Volt: 0.78 Amps
Purchase one of our speed controlls if you are on a 24 volt system to slow it down a bit. We also sell a reversing switch.

The Vari-Fan can be operated at 12 or 24 V DC. There is no need to order a specific voltage.*

The Vari-Fan comes with a matte black finish, but it can be easily painted following the instructions that come with each fan. Estimated time to prepare and paint each fan is approximately 1 hour using one can of spray paint.

The main body parts (the black parts) of the Vari-Fan are made from injection molded ABS plastic insuring a lightweight, very durable fan that will stand up to a variety of environments from extreme heat and cold and high humidity to very dry. The Vari-Fan will not corrode, dent, or show minor scratches.

Each part of the Vari-Fan is made to the highest quality giving the customer years of trouble free use.

Please Note:
Lights: The Vari-Fan cannot be mounted with a light kit because of the motor design.

Switches: Because of the motor design, the Vari-Fan is operated by a wall switch, not a pull cord. The Vari-Fan does not come with a switch, but one can be purchased from us.

The Vari-Fan can be operated at 12or 24V DC.

At 12V DC, the Vari-Fan is very effective at distributing warm air evenly throughout a room.

The fan should be mounted in the hottest area of the room, i.e., near the peak of a vaulted ceiling or near the heat source (never over) in a conventional room with a low flat ceiling.

If you are trying to move air from one room to another, we recommend installing two Vari-Fans - one in the room that is too warm and a second in the middle of the cooler room to pick up and distribute the warm air.

In rooms of over 500 sq. ft. (15.4 sq. m.) or with ceilings over 15 ft. (4.5 m) high, two Vari-Fans will be more effective than one.

At 24V DC, the Vari-Fan is not only effective at distributing warm air but can also deliver a cooling breeze on those hot and humid days. We strongly recommend you install a speed control when operating the Vari-Fan at 24 volts especially if the fan is mounted at a ceiling height of 9 ft. (2.7 m) or less. The Vari-Fan at 24V DC will be most effective in rooms of 700 sq. ft. (21.7 sq. m.) or less. Larger rooms may require two or more fans.
